Trying to be environmentally friendly is something that is going to influence us all in the next twelve years. We have Eco Travel, Electric Driven Automobiles & Bio Fuels to look at now.

There are several sorts of Biological Fuels. Biological Fuels are on the whole plant based substitutes to oil- based Diesels such as petrol, diesel and cooking oil. Burning biodiesel discharges C02, still this is offset through the fact that the crop used to create it uses C02 from across the climate to develop. Yet the climate change advantages of Bio Diesels are hotly argued, with some climate friendly experts stating that Biological Diesel cause more destruction than good. There are many two big varieties of Biological Diesel & Ethanol.

As the name means, biodiesel is considered for use in diesel motorcycles. Biological Diesel is greatly alike to veg oil and is produced from the same types of plants- oil rich sources such as sunflower, palm, rapeseed & groundnut. Bio Diesel can also be constructed from cow fat or oils reused from burger restaurants. Biodiesel and fuels can be used smart in some diesel cars, even so, at present Biodiesel is much more traditionally to be found in a mix with normal diesel- regularly two percent biodiesel with regular diesel fuel. This recipe can be used by any diesel van. Discover Biodiesel and keep what goes onto your car eco friendly.

Ever thought about acquiring a climate change friendly car? There are many two types the G WIZ electric car & the Mega City electric car. All of these are many genuinely climate friendly travel machines; in fact the electric cars are an environmental vision. They don’t manufacture any carbon dioxide emissions in fact much more to the point they do not even own an exhaust pipe. If you power a climate change friendly car from renewable energy, it generates not any CO2. Although this eco friendly car has countless advantages it does have a few cons as well. The obvious being it is a climate change friendly car and it may only do one hundred and nine miles before you have to top up the car power pack & all that in average has to be concluded over night, if you are scheduling on doing an extended road trip, this may have to be charged over the course of several days.

Many people consider owning their own business. Over the past few years there seems to be an increase in young people wanting to start businesses. This is most likely due to young persons knowledge of technology.

Some people are against others starting so young. Because so many businesses fail most feel that experience can better your chances of success. Most say that instead of starting a business straight out of high school or college you should work first to gain experience.

Gaining experience first is not always the way to go, if you have the drive and the will to own your own business, you should pursue it as soon as possible. Even if you fail and make mistakes, you can learn form those mistakes so that in future ventures you won’t make the same mistakes again.

Also a young person who fails at a business venture will only be risking a few hundred or a few thousand dollars and will have a lot of time to recover that money. On the other hand an older person can wait until they are 50 to start a business and lose it all. When you look at it form that perspective it is easy to see that starting your own business young isn’t such a bad thing.

Scientists have discovered a source of liquid gold. For decades they have tried to
dismantle, analyze, and recreate this amazing substance - to no avail. The only
known source of this magical fluid is a mother’s breast, and it’s not
giving up its secrets easily.
Shortly after giving birth, chemical messages are sent throughout a woman’s
body, instructing it to produce breastmilk. The mechanisms involved in its
production are mind-boggling, as are the various benefits it provides to the infant.
Through diet we can increase its potential and help ensure that it is of the highest
possible quality.

CALORIES

Producing enough milk to feed a rapidly growing child can take a lot of
energy - about 500 calories each day. Find these calories in nutrient-dense foods,
not high sugar ones. Be sure that food is readily available to you in the weeks
postpartum, as you will likely discover that you are ravenous! Even with the
additional intake of food, you will likely see a reduction in your weight without
giving it much thought. Rapid weight loss (more than 2-4 pounds per month after
the first four weeks) may signal that you are not eating enough calories to both
keep yourself healthy and produce milk for your baby.

PROTEIN

The protein found in your breastmilk is easily and quickly digested. It has
the perfect amino acid profile for growth, one which is unique to human milk.
During the postpartum period, a diet low in protein may lead to an increase in
recovery time. This may affect your ability to establish a good nursing routine and
thus a good milk supply.

Some studies had determined that the protein content of breastmilk could be
enhanced with an increase in dietary protein, while other more complete studies
make no such correlation. None the less, we do know that lactating requires extra
protein in the mother’s diet. Include at least 4 protein dense servings of food
daily (i.e. tofu, nuts, beans, egg, fish, etc.).

FATS

Fats in - fats out. The composition of fat found in your milk is highly
variable and very much under the influence of your diet. Within hours of a meal, the
type of fat you consumed will become the predominant fat in your milk. This means
you should try to be aware of what to eat - and not eat!

During the prenatal and neonatal stages, the one substance that plays an important
role in growth, neurologic development and function, and learning and behaviour is
fat. Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), (found in nuts, seeds, fish, and greens) are an
important part of your diet during both pregnancy and lactation. The parent EFAs
(linoleic acid and linolenic acid) are converted into arachidonic acid (AA),
eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). All are very important
for infant development. AA and DHA are found in great concentrations in the human
brain and nervous system. They are thought to be part of the reason why the human
brain has developed advanced cognitive abilities beyond that of most other
mammals. Breastmilk is a good source of EFAs, and can be especially rich if you are
sure to include EFA foods in your diet.

If your diet is high in Trans-Fatty Acids (TFAs), these too will be passed on to the
infant. TFAs, which are found in hydrogenated oils and processed foods, have been
linked to cardiovascular risk, neurological underdevelopment, and other life-long
risks in children. Even if your diet is rich in EFAs, the inclusion of TFAs will prohibit
their metabolization and neither you nor the baby will receive all possible benefits.

In addition to regular dietary sources, EFAs can be taken in supplement form. Many
products are suitable for nursing moms and have been used therapeutically when
milk supply is deemed low, engorgement is common, or the infant is susceptible to
numerous infections.

VITAMINS AND MINERALS

Many vitamins will pass through to your milk from your bloodstream and are
therefore under your influence. Most minerals will not. In some cases the breast has
a ’saturation-point’ by which you can be assured that nutrient levels
will not surpass those needed by your child. But some nutrients, such as B6,
manganese, iodine, and selenium will continue to accumulate.

Thiamin, B12, folic acid, and Vitamin D may be important supplements to consider if
you are at all concerned that your diet does not include enough. These vitamins are
crucial to infant development and have been observed to be dangerously low in
some women. Vegan mothers should definitely watch their intake of vitamins B12
and D as these are typically found in animal foods. The influx of fortified foods on
the market, however, will likely decrease the need for any additional
supplementation if they are included in your diet regularly

Obviously the best place to get your nutrients is from the food you eat. Be sure that
your diet contains optimal amounts of whole grains, and fresh, colourful fruits and
vegetables. A good quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement will fill in any gaps
and help prevent some of the exhaustion many new moms experience.

WATER

It is a sharp realization to a new mother that all of the liquid coming out of
her infant (which can sometimes seem copious!) had to enter via her breastmilk. The
extra fluid you are creating must be supported with additional fluids in your diet.
Some mothers will experience an intense thirst as their baby latches on. All the
more reason to keep a glass of water nearby at all times!

It was once thought that the more water you ingested, the more milk you would
produce. Although this is not actually the case, what we do know is that when water
intake is low, a mother’s body may not function optimally. Therefore drinking
approximately 8-10 glasses, but no more, of water each day is very important.<br /
>

TOXINS IN YOUR MILK?

In addition to TFAs, there are other substances in your diet that are passed
on to your child. Caffeine and alcohol, both very common in the Western diet, are
taken in by the infant through milk. Unfortunately the baby’s immature liver
will have difficulty processing these chemicals, even if no outward signs of ingestion
are visible (irritability, sleeplessness, etc.). Small amounts in your diet, timed around
nursing sessions (if predictable) are usually not a problem. Large amounts are, of
course, best avoided.

Many mothers worry about the research that has shown breastmilk to be a high
source of environmental contaminants (PCBs, DDT, mercury, etc.), and some have
doubted the safety of their milk. What is important to recognize is that what is
found (or not found) in the alternatives to breastmilk is far more dangerous than
these chemicals. Knowledgeable doctors have begun to counsel patients to continue
nursing through a course of pharmaceuticals because they know that the
alternatives are worse than the baby receiving a dose of the drug themselves. For
obvious reasons smoking is best avoided, regardless of whether or not you are
nursing. But even smokers should pursue breastfeeding, as their baby’s
lungs actually stand a better chance at being healthy than if they were to be fed
formula.

We may never know how to replicate breastmilk, and we are only just beginning to
understand its value. As a breastfeeding mother you should feel encouraged that
you are doing what is best for your child. Taking good care of yourself and eating a
healthy diet will help you meet the demands of your nursing relationship. Your baby
will thank you.

I have talked about the value of peer groups in my article entitled, Developing Effectiveness in Business, but what we haven’t yet discussed is the value of facilitated peer groups.
In this article, I’d like to share the benefits from the experience of someone who has seen real measurable benefits that far exceed the cost in time and money for being part of a facilitated peer group.

To quote John Dini, owner of a peer-advisory franchise in San Antonio (The Alternative Board), the value of a peer group is that, “You get more out of discussing someone else’s issue in a constructive manner than you do talking about your own.”

For many people, the ideal way to do this is in person since it bars the distrust and uncertainty that is sometimes bred by background distractions over the phone.

And when you add a trained expert facilitator, you have a winning recipe: maximum benefit for the time and cost involved.

“Of course, it’s not always practical to meet in person, but many of the ideas presented here would work in facilitated peer group discussion using the telephone when geographic distance becomes a major hindrance,” says Henry Barbey, director of the Center for Coaching and co-founder of Strategic Conversations”.

“Members of the same industry scattered throughout the country may find it valuable to share information, discuss business challenges and brainstorm about new ideas. In this case, facilitated peer group strategic conversations over the telephone can be the perfect solution.”

I recently interviewed Tony Hutti, who has personally experienced the amazing results that come out of facilitated peer groups. He has over 35 years of leadership and management experience and describes himself as a peer group facilitator or Forum Leader, for Renaissance Executive Forums.

He has also been the CEO/Owner of three separate companies and has been the driving force in the turnaround of various companies. Renaissance Executive Forums is an international company dedicated to helping top executives accelerate positive changes in their businesses and in their lives.

The Group’s Structure

Any peer groups facilitated by Hutti consist of 10 to 12 same-level executives (usually CEOs) from similar sized, non-competing companies, with expertise spanning the areas of service, distribution, manufacturing, and retail.

When these members are looking for an idea that will help them take advantage of an opportunity or problem solve regarding an issue they’re facing, they are able to pull information from the other 10 members in their group. Since some of the members have twenty-plus years of experience, an entire group might have 300 years of experience.

The synergy of the peer group situation is unparalleled in any other forum. Certainly, the power of the collective minds offers optimal solutions to each business challenge. Once a peer group member describes an issue in a meeting, the facilitator and group members ask clarifying questions to better define the problem.

“Members of a peer group tend to be frank in their responses,” explains Hutti. “They have no reason to hold back since they are not from the same organization and don’t have to concern themselves with office or family politics.”

With the problem clearly defined, other members in the group relate experiences where they have encountered similar situations and discuss how they handled them. The member who brought up the question takes the problem clarifications and experiential feedback into consideration, and then presents to the group his idea of how he or she is going to address the problem. At the next month’s meeting, the member is expected to give a progress update, instituting accountability to the process.

The issue of accountability is greatly needed by executives, says Hutti, who has been facilitating peer groups for over 10 years. “Most CEOs look for that and they don’t get it from their staff; and they don’t get it from their management team; and they really want someone to hold them accountable.”

Here’s an example of how Hutti would keep everyone at a meeting on topic with the purpose of achieving focused results.

Let’s say one member of a group has a problem with a Sales Manager. While members are taking turns asking clarifying questions about this, Hutti would further guide the process by keeping it on track, noting, “Perhaps the issue is not really the Sales Manager; it’s the product or the service that’s being provided; or there’s not clear definition of who the customer really is.”

Other CEOs might share their experiences in similar situations and the CEO with the problem will incorporate their thoughts into his planned action steps to address the situation.

Why Facilitated Groups Make Good Sense

The beauty of a facilitated peer group lies in the dedicated facilitator, who makes all of the arrangements for time, place, and attendees, and attends the meetings themselves.
During the meeting, the facilitator asks clarifying questions and solicits questions from others in the group.

He/she also documents the problem or challenge being addressed, which member raised the issue, what feedback was given and by whom, and what action steps were decided upon and by whom.

At the next meeting, the facilitator discusses the action steps the group member has taken to resolve the problems. The facilitator documents the results produced since they are the one responsible for holding members accountable for examining and measuring progress.

The facilitator provides members of the group with quantifiable evidence that their participation paid off for them.

Examples include: the dollar value of advice given/received, the bottom line savings a solution yielded for a member’s company, or the value of time that would have been spent on other alternatives had the solution not been extracted via the process and synergy of the peer group.

Another important role for the facilitator is recruiting relevant yet diverse members for the groups so their members can get right to work with a ready-made expert panel, making subscription to the group a priceless investment.

Hutti personally interviews any given prospective member, informing him or her of the value he is getting from his dollar by backing it up with facts from his own repertoire of peer group successes.

He is also quietly sizing up the CEO, ascertaining his or her communication style, his specific skill set, business needs, and determining whether or not the prospective member is amenable to a peer group setting.

If all goes well and the CEO wants to try the group before paying a membership fee, Hutti will get permission from the peer group to have the CEO attend on a trial basis. The CEO signs a confidentiality agreement, and attends a meeting.

This protects the individual from joining an incompatible group - but it also protects the members of established groups. If the members feel that a new prospective member is not a good fit, they can speak up and request that he or she not be permitted to join their forum, before it is too late and the dues are paid.

Although this is quite rare, say 1 in 100 instances, Hutti wants to make sure the group has the right mix and offers this service to protect the group members’ collective investment, making certain that the group provides value to every member.

The Results

Obviously, the members join to get results. Hutti says that any given member in a group will see results within a year, but some members gain results as early as the first meeting. He cites one example where a tip given in the first meeting saved one man $100,000.

Investment in a facilitated peer group pays off for many reasons:

Members become empowered by the facilitated peer group process. Often times in their own settings, business owners and CEOs are stifled in their effectiveness because they do not have the proper tools to get their ideas across, even if they have the right idea to begin with.

The peer group can draw upon its reserves of wisdom to provide additional problem-solving methods to the member, which he or she may not have already considered.

When a member does not have the right processes at work in his organization to implement his ideas, the other group members can provide alternatives they have seen work in their companies. Or they can help the member find ways to motivate his organization to change its processes. As a result, he might go back to the company with factual information that support his ideas, which is more likely to elicit a positive response.

Annually, each group member has the opportunity to understand the value of his or her contribution to the group. Once a year, Hutti sits down with each member and tells him or her what the member individually brought to the group, and what it was worth. He also reviews personal action steps taken, and what those were potentially worth to that member.

Members may also call Hutti for additional advice between meetings and he personally arranges separate meetings or appointments to supplement the monthly meetings.

Community And The Greater Good

In addition, members of facilitated peer groups such as the ones run by Hutti or available through are ostensibly helping their own communities thrive. The peer groups are built of diverse types of businesses, but the businesses are concentrated in a local area.

In helping local businesses become as effective as possible, a positive impact is made on an entire community’s economy. Synergy works its way out of the meeting room and into the local community!

In Strategic Conversations facilitated peer groups, instead of just a local community benefiting from these groups, entire industries are positively impacted.

Henry Barbey, co-founder of Strategic Conversations notes, “These facilitated peer groups, unhampered by geographic distances, allow strong, productive alliances to be built between individuals in the same roles in an industry as well as individuals functioning in vertical roles. Group members broaden their understanding of and problem-solving skills in the operations of an entire industry, instead of just their unique and specialized functions. This strengthens their skill sets and creates additional areas of expertise for both new and seasoned executives, as they share ideas and problem-solving solutions covering a myriad of business challenges. Their organizations receive additional value as they personally do.”

Creativity flourishes in peer groups as well. By taking individuals out of the cocoon of their single industry and placing them in the presence of other high-level experts from other industries, either in-person or virtually, magic happens.

Now you have executives thinking outside the box, but within their own expertise at running companies. By borrowing innovative ideas that worked in one industry and applying them to a totally different industry, a new code is being written for business.

Business continues to evolve because of groups like these - the ideas that peer group members implement and report back on will serve to change the landscape of their own individual companies, their industries and local communities forever.

If your mind is set, you will be unable to change your mindset. For example Christopher Columbus…

He was born in 1451 in Genoa, the son of a wool merchant and weaver. Do you recall what the conventional thinking or “Mindset” was about the shape of the globe at that time? It was believed to be flat. Not too many sailors sailed too far from shore fearing the worst. Columbus’ mind was set. It was set for taking risks and exploring new worlds.

Columbus discovered the New World on October 12, 1492 at 2:00 a.m. He changed his Mindset and we’re still celebrating his courage, boldness, and discoveries.

How you think is everything. For example - where are the obvious
places to look for new prospects for the products and services you sell? Make a list and go ask one of your competitors to do the same thing. Now compare lists. Hello - exactly the same. Surprise - surprise!

Now make another list and don’t tell your competition about this one. Make a list of all the un-obvious places you can go to find qualified prospects. Remember this is an un-obvious list and it requires a new and different mindset. It ain’t easy but it is good. It isn’t quick but it can be profitable for you. But first, you gotta remove the shackles on your conventional thinking.

You’ll get what you expect - so always expect the best to happen to you. Always be positive and expect the best. Only one person has the keys to your thoughts - you. Put a lid on all negative thinking. If it’s negative it’s usually related to a past experience.

There are three houses you can choose to live in past, present, and future. You can toss away the keys to the past and future houses. You can’t live there so there’s no reason for you to spend any time thinking about them.

Put all your energy in the house called “Present or Today.” When you wake up in the morning and don’t see your name in the obituary column, consider yourself lucky and do everything to make today a “Masterpiece.”

Expect the best in these situations:

1. You’re calling on your competitor’s best customer. Expect them to be receptive to your new ideas. Expect them to give you 1% of the business because they’re willing to see if you can earn even more.

2. You have an appointment with Charley Discount who enjoys beating salespeople up on their prices. Expect Charley to ease up on the pricing pressure because for the first time he really does see the “True Value” of the products and personalized services you provide. He’s even willing to add to the order to make it easier for you to justify better pricing to your sales manager.

3. You have a co-travel coaching day scheduled with your sales
manager. The last one turned a little ugly. Expect your travel day to be a positive experience. Your manager is helpful and encouraging - and even tosses a few compliments your way. And it happens because you expect it to happen. It starts with your expectations.

If you want anything to be better it always starts with your Mindset. Expect things to get better and they will.

If you expect them to get worse - they will and you won’t be
disappointed. Here’s the choice. You can expect the best or theworst but you can only choose one. Now really, isn’t this a No-Brainer for you.

Don’t try to succeed alone. Most salespeople don’t get this one. You shouldn’t think of yourself as a selling “Gladiator.” Success won’t come from your sword, in sales that’s your mouth, it comes from a steady flow of new sales and marketing ideas you can use to help solve your customer’s problems and grow your business.

The prescription for rigid thinking is a changing Mindset.

What Christopher Columbus did required “Radical thinking.” What kind of radical thinking would help you to outsmart your competition?

This isn’t about thinking - it’s about doing!

It’s not the first time I have been facilitating a workshop or group session and as early as the first break, other members of the group have asked me to deal with someone who is dominating the session.

How often have you been in a similar team setting and said to yourself…

“Why don’t they shut up for 5 minutes? They’re talking through a hole in their whatsit!”

What can make the situation worse? Those that just love to hear themselves talk…

Quite often are only repeating what someone else has said.

May not have the authority to speak.

May not have the expertise or any experience in the particular subject.

Even when not talking, are not listening - they are too busy thinking about what to say next

Will inhibit other team members from participating

Whatever you do don’t stop for breath. The slightest pause, even natural quiet times that occur in meetings are regarded as opportunities for the dominating team member to talk some more.

Seriously, these situations can be tricky. We want the whole team or group to participate in a balanced (not necessarily equal) way.

Moreover, depending on the team session, or team project, some team members may have more experience and expertise than others and we may need to depend on their expertise to move forward.

This dependency in itself can lead to another type of challenge which is covered in Managing Your Team (Part 4).

Leaving this dominating issue unresolved can definitely harm the overall effectiveness of the team. Over time, other participants will either attend team sessions reluctantly or find a “very good reason” not to attend at all. This will greatly damage the sense of team worth and teamwork.

What can make it tricky is that we want to deal with this without alienating the dominating participant - they are a member of the team and still have a valid and valued contribution to make to the overall success of the team and, therefore, their participation still needs to be encouraged.

So, how do we lead dominating team members?

If it’s a team meeting, group session, or project meeting for example, give everyone a chance to prepare. Using meeting management best practice, all participants are given the agenda in advance, asked to prepare their inputs depending on the subject matter. Team members will all also note that each of them have been given a certain time slot and a certain amount of time to give their inputs. It’s up to the team leader or facilitator to ensure the agenda is adhered to. We all do that anyway, right?

Play to their strengths. Recognise that a team member may have more experience and expertise than others and their inputs are valued but also emphasise that all team inputs are important.

We discussed “reluctant” participants in Managing Your Team (Part 2). So, without pointing the finger at “dominating” participants, it could be worthwhile running a team session which specifically discusses team participation, balance of participation, reaching consensus on the ‘rules’.

For those of you unfamiliar with the term gatekeeping, as team leader it well within your power to address the issue in situ by, for example, thanking the dominating team member for their contribution and emphasising that you would like to get inputs from other team members.

Use one of my preferred techniques - Brainstorming or another where you get members to write down their ideas, say top three, and then in a structured way, invite each team member to share their ideas with the rest of the team.

Managing Your Team (Part 4) will look at Disproportionate Amount of Influence.

Cavemen weren’t always barbaric in their daily lives, between gathering food and knocking one and other over with big sticks they utilized the outdoor oven known as at barbeque pit. Our cave brothers knew what they were doing when they smoked turkey and chickens over the hot coals of the pit, they were unknowingly crafting a cooking method still utilized today. The barbeque pit is a great way to cook food, gather with friends, and create some spice to that boring yard of yours.

Barbeque pits are traditionally used by restaurants, cooking enthusiasts, and outdoorsmen, but they are becoming more popular in our backyards. The location of the barbeque pit is the first essential ingredient to making this outdoor oven work for you and your family. I wouldn’t recommend putting the barbeque pit in your front yard if you live on a busy street, the next door neighbors might think you’re trying to send smoke signals to the sky for rescue. Then again if you live on a farm, or ranch, a front yard barbeque pit might be just what the doctor ordered. The most logical way to pick a location for the barbeque pit is away from leaves, trees, and anything that can catch on fire. That being said it can also be a trendy looking landmark if you put it in the center of your backyard, as long as the pit won’t cause anything near it to catch fire.

Once you have selected the perfect location for your barbeque pit, it’s time to start digging. Typically you would want to dig about 5 feet into the ground, and create a circle big enough to house whatever size metal grill you will be topping your pit off with. Once the hole is dug you want to line it with wood, or charcoals of your choice. Be sure to choose the correct wood or coals because this is what will generate that smoked flavor. Many wood fanatics go for hickory or oak woods to burn in their pits, while charcoal is usually basic grocery bought coals.

You don’t need a toga and a wooden club to be able to cook on your new barbeque pit. Many get the idea that Neanderthal ovens are meant for Neanderthal foods, this is not the case. Feel free to toss on some vegan burgers, or exotic tilapia fish. Whatever is your delight will be cooked to perfection on your in ground barbeque pit.

The final step is making the pit a family friendly by adding wooden stools in a circular fashion a few feet back from the pit. This will take roasting marshmallows to the next level.

Aptly named the sunshine state, Florida reigns as the most popular holiday destination for its long stretches of sandy beaches, larger-than-life theme parks and near perfect climate all year round.

Fundamentals in Place

•	There is a designated place for everything and everything is in its place. No time is wasted while looking for things. The organization looks clean and everyone is required, encouraged and motivated to keeping it organized.

•	The distance traveled by operator(s) and/or a specific part is less than the perimeter of the facility.

•	There are on-going reports easily assessable to everyone that provides timely feedback for individuals and groups.

•	Quality is achieved by controlling the process, not by checking parts. Rework and quality returns are rare occurrences.

Evident Flow

•	Everyone is aware of the status of the subsequent operation/step.

•	There is a clearly visible, easy to follow path through all steps.

•	External set-up time has been eliminated and everyone follows consistent set-up procedures.

Balanced Lines/Processes

•	Everyone is aware of and executes to takt time (pace of production required to match demand from the next operation/step).

•	To handle mix issues, the schedule is properly leveled to minimize the impact of both inventory and set up time. In addition, the required pitch (i.e. increments of work) is regularly determined for the pace maker operation/step.

Pull vs. Push

•	There is one single point for scheduling (i.e. pace maker) - scheduling is not done at multiple or at every operation/step.

•	There is no or limited number of batch processes - whenever possible, a continuous flow. One key clue to look for is presence of inventory.

•	In spots where batching is necessary, FIFO pull system is in place with proper inventory levels. The amount of overall inventory (in equivalent number of days) should be approximately or slightly higher than the average of lead time (in days). Any discrepancy results in excess inventory and/or part shortage (which in turn impacts customer service level).

•	Customer service level is not directly impacted by forecast accuracy. There are no official “expeditors.”

Organization Alignment

•	There is an acceptance for trying new ideas and concepts. Desire for continuous improvement is very strong. Maintaining status quo is not an option.

•	There is constant communication channel between workforce and the management. Award and recognition are based identifying, implementing and sustaining improvements (on time, quality, customer service and/or cost).

•	The workforce is empowered and motivated to self-direct daily operations/tasks with minimum input from management.

•	There are clear, proper, objective and timely measurements available for everyone to view. Any degradation is identified and addressed immediately.

Simply put, in a truly lean organization, each step in the entire value chain processes only what the subsequent step requires - this is done at the right time, in high quality and at the lowest cost possible. All seven types of waste have been identified and eliminated - the only remaining work should be those that are needed to change form/fit and/or function a customer is willing to pay for.

Famous for his bald head, the son of a famous rugby player, 34-year-old Fabien Barthez is technically an excellent soccer player who could possibly have also made a career in an outfield position. Considered the top goalkeeper in France, he lost his place to Lyon’s Gregory Coupet after being banned for eight months (April-October 2005) for spitting at a referee.

A brawl erupted on the pitch after Marseille defender Frederic Dehu was sent off and the match was abandoned with 10 minutes left. Barthez, who had been substituted, got off the bench and confronted the referee. Fortunately for him, after long reflection, coach Raymond Domenech opted for the 77 times capped Barthez, who is also a veteran of the 1988 World Cup winning side.

It was reported in the French media that Domenech and his goalkeeper coach Bruno Martini chose Barthez over the 33-year-old Coupet because of his bigger experience at major events and his standing in the national team.

There is no doubt that Barthez can either be brilliant or sometimes a liability. When France won the World Cup in 1998, he only conceded two goals in seven games, but he has also made blunders, some of which were at club level for Manchester United.

Subsequent to the World Cup 1998, Barthez became a huge celebrity, almost a French equal of David Beckham.

Barthez started his career in professional football at Toulouse FC, joining Olympique Marseille in 1992 and winning the 1993 European Cup. He joined AS Monaco in 1995, winning the French League Championship and again in 2000.

Well known for his cavalier charges out of goal, he went on to join United for £7.8 million in May 2000, a British record for a goalkeeper, and won two Premiership titles at Old Trafford before returning to Marseille in August 2002 on loan. He quickly became a first choice during an exciting UEFA Cup run, securing a permanent move to his old club when he became a free agent in the summer of 2004.
